Coelogyne is a diverse genus of epiphytic, lithophytic, and terrestrial orchids native to tropical and subtropical regions across Asia and the Western Pacific. Established by botanist John Lindley in 1821, the genus contains roughly 100 to 200 species. The name derives from the Greek words koilos (hollow) and gyne (female/pistil), which refers to the unique, deeply concave stigma found on the flowers
